After several follow up trips back to NYC Brien was playing a set on Long Island when he met Mark Pohl and Bill Morey, the rhythm section with The Renegade Kings. Brien kept returning to NYC every 3 months and started playing regularly with Mark and Bill on every return trip. The more this trio played together, the more it clicked that this was becoming a really great combination. Eventually they decided to get a name and work permanently as a band. Brien and the Blackouts were born. The guys have played all over Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island. In 2013 the band were flown to New Zealand to play at The Beach Hop, New Zealand’s biggest Retro Car and Music festival. 2014 has landed Brien permanently in the USA living in New Jersey on an arts visa. Brien McVernon has been at the top of the Australian Rockabilly Scene for many years. His band The Retro Rockets recorded 5 studio albums, 1 live album and played every major festival and stage in Australia and New Zealand. However, Brien was looking to spread his music further afield. Having played with The Stray Cats star Slim Jim Phantom in Australia, New Zealand and Africa, Brien was asked to join Slim Jim in the USA to play at the Union County Musicfest, New Jersey in 2010. This was followed with an invitation to play 2 more shows with Mike Peters and the Alarm in New York City. Brien instantly found a place that he wanted to make his new home.
